On Tuesday 9th December Welling welcomed Fran Herrick, a visting lecturer from the Courtauld Gallery in London. The Courtauld Gallery houses one of the countries finest art colections. To suport the work we do in Canon Art History lessons we invited 30 students along from Year 7 who has made the most progress this term, to stretch and challenge their understanding of the huge variety and depth of this subject.
Fran delivered an exciting worshop exploring Artists Houses and Studios . Together we discussed links between artists’ spaces and the work they make, reflecting on how the two can affect each other. Students then took to practically applying their knowledge through inventing their own artist studios and creating small scale architecetural models filled with potential ideas about what their own studio might be like. The event has already triggered many discussions in class and some amazing questions!
Building on this success in the new year we will host other lecturers from the Courtauld in this series. Everyone at school is welcome to attend and join the discussion.
